I am an Assistant Professor at the Goldman School of Public Policy at UC-Berkeley, a Faculty Research Fellow at the National Bureau of Economic Research, and a Fellow at the TIAA Institute. I study how public policy can help households manage risks to their health and employment over their life cycle. My research uses both observational data and field experiments to inform the design of health insurance, retirement saving, and safety net programs.
My research on Health Savings Accounts received the 2022 TIAA Institute Paul A. Samuelson Award for Outstanding Scholarly Writing on Lifelong Financial Security. I earned my Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School and my B.A. from Princeton University’s School of Public and International Affairs.
